Who We Are
To understand what and who we are, the National organisation have produced a leaflet Who We Are outlining what it does and aims in more detail.
Club Constitution
Following agreement by members at the February 2018 monthly meeting the club rules relating to the recommendation from National as to the objectives of U3A have been made to the constitution of Crouch Valley U3A. The signed amended Club Constitution March 2018 - V2 is now available.
Registered Charity
Crouch Valley U3A is a registered Charity as from April 1st 2018. Its registration number with the Charities Commission is 1180675 with its Charity Commission Certificate that has been issued.
Fraud Alert Information
With Essex Police support the Fraud Alert web page is maintained on the Thorpe Bay u3a website. Please follow Fraud Alert Information link and this will take you to information on Fraud and a link to Thorpe Bay website.
Data Protection
New Data Protection requirements are to be introduced in May 2018. These new requirements define how information is transmitted and this includes the use of personal information.
To enable National to communicate with members we need to forward details such addresses and e-mail information.
Please be advised following a question to National we have received the following statement.
"Members details that are being held by the National Office will never be sold to other organisations."
As part of GDPR requirements members are required to update their details online. Please read Direct Mail Update and follow the instructions to verify your information. Please note the dates when the information can be updated.
Safeguarding Policy
As with many organisations it is recommended that we as club adopt a Safeguarding Policy. At the July 1st 2019 Committee Meeting the following Safeguarding Policy document. Please note the date it was agreed.

We broadcast educational and entertaining online talks by the best public speakers for U3A Clubs and members across the country, today working with over 100 clubs monthly and delivering talks to over 14,000 retirees.
Our talks are viewed from the comfort and safety of your member's own home.
Mirthy broadcasts a FREE talk every Thursday which is open to your members to join (last week we had over 1,000 join us from across the country!). This is a great way for us to raise awareness of our speakers.

U3A Newsletter - Important Information

U3A Events Update
The U3A have just published a Research Guide “Getting involved in Research”. It will shortly be available on the National website. The guide has been produced in response to a growing interest in research within the U3A movement and aims to encourage U3A members to get involved in research and provides the basic guidelines on developing a research project. There are already a large number of projects in the National Research Database

The following guidance documents have been issued by National for the start of 2023.
YEAR END ACCOUNTS
The accounts have been prepared for the year ending March 2022. They have been examined and approved by Khan Thornton.

GROUP MONIES
Individual Groups should not hold more than £50.00 and any surplus funds should be paid over to the Treasurer for banking into the main u3a account. As we are now able to do Bank Transfer can you please where possible use this method of payment.
Please follow the Group Monies Summary January 2025 link which will show the funds held in the main bank account which will be updated at regular intervals.
To view the full details of income and expenditure for each group will be displayed on the main Group page.
Group Leaders please advise the Treasurer if there is anything you do not agree with.
DONATIONS
Our U3A is covered by the Charities Act as such payments cannot be made to another charity. (Funds have to be used for our Charitable purpose), however, we are allowed to make a one off payment to another charity at the request of a speaker in lieu of their fees.
Stamp Collection
In addition to the above charities our U3A are also collecting stamps. Due to our U3A unable to meet we still need members to collect stamps. During the Xmas & New Year period can you please save all your stamps. Bob Le Beau is coordinating this again for this year. We will advise of collection at a future date.
